the isles.

My shoulders are pink, my babies' feet are brown, and my sheets are sprinkled with a fine layer of sugary sand--even after we rinsed off before bed last night.

Which can only mean one thing.

Isle of Capri Sunday.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

There was this glorious moment when we all turned our heads to watch the vibrant sails of a Hobie Cat gracefully glide toward shore...

Photobucket

...but then there was this other not-so-glorious moment when, in front of an entire restaurant of onlookers, I tried to use a paddle to propel my round innertube forward and all it did was spin. To the right, to the left, to the right, to the left--and while physics clearly prevented anything but circular movement, I was determined to continue to make an ass of myself. Until, after much laughing and "make it go" pleas from Lainey, we bailed and walked to shore.

Photobucket

Photobucket

It's was Dot's first trip to IOC, so we swore her in with the ceremony of stapling her dollar on the beam. Dot 'n Lainey, it says.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Nella's stretching her sea legs--pulling herself up on the dock steps, dipping her face in salty water, grinding her teeth on fistfulls of sand and slithering her stomach across the dock, salamander style. It reminds me so much of Lainey back in the day and thrills me to no end that I get to watch two girls grow up spending Sundays collecting broken shells, cupping silver minnows in their palms, and climbing over stacks of colored kayaks.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

I like watching Lainey be part of the big kid group. And, both sadly and beautifully, she is fitting in more and more--without obviously standing out as the smallest one.

Photobucket

There are different moods for different Isle of Capri trips, and while I love the dock-diving, high-on life excitement of so many, yesterday I felt calm and relaxed--oh, but still so very high-on life.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

There is nothing but happiness at this place.

Photobucket

I'm using these photos to replenish the sleepy high-on-life voice that dwells within more quietly today. ...and that's okay too.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I'm over at The Creative Mama today, answering some questions about blogging and inspiration. It's a great site--very creatively motivating. Check it out.
Photobucket

And finally, I'm happy to be bringing back LovingShop Tutus as a sponsor. All tutus are handmade and durable as my girls have had theirs for awhile now and have worn them inside and out, and they're still beautiful. Use code ENJOY to get 10% off your order.

Happy Monday.

So quiet down down cobwebs dust go to sleep
I'm rocking my baby and babies dont keep.

This doesn't have anything to do with the post, but I feel you need to know about this super cool idea. You live everything up large and I found an awesome website with loads of ideas on it. One in particular has to do with the tooth fairy. www.howdoesshe.com/the-twirling-tooth-fairy It has gobs of awesome craft ideas, but this tooth fairy one is so adorable. I can just picture Lainey being mesmerized by the tooth fairy sprinkling dust all around her room. Anyway, while you're relaxing today, check it out. :)

My favorite photo today is the one of your shadows waving! Love it. Been reading your blog for a while now and it has been so inspiring to me as an artist mama of two little girls (ages 1 and 2)! Thank you for your beautiful words and for sharing your life.

God bless your angels. I swear they are such beauties and miss Lainey could be a model with all those poses! They are both just perfectly gorgeous.

I am new to your blog, I have a daughter with Williams Syndrome, opposite of yours, she is missing a chromosome link. I love following you and reading your blogs for inspiration

I am always happy when you go to the Isles!

I just have to know where you got Lainey's sweet little sailor style outfit from. I love the hat and the stripes on her outfit! My daughter is just a few months shy in age of Lainey and she's a little sprite, just like your girl.
Isle of Capri looks breathtaking, like always. What a perfect way to spend a Sunday.

I'm thinking that last picture of you & Nella plus the Parisian shots of Lainey Love need to go on that photo wall of yours!! Absolutely gorgeous!!

Happy Tuesday, friend

Okay that little Lainey needs to get into modeling ASAP! She is such a natural - it's hilarious but sooo dang cute!
Jealous of your weekend getaway, but looking forward to mine. Nothing like IOC but still ocean, sand and laziness =)

Lainey's outfit is so adorable! Thanks again for another beautiful post Kelle, these remind us up north that summer is right around the corner.

Just a lurker, but wanted to say that every time I see a picture of your dog I get thrown for a loop! My childhood dog (a rescue) looked EXACTLY like that.. EXACTLY. lol

Freaks me out. Also, BTW, she used to hide Easter eggs. We would look for eggs forever and never find them.. eventually caught her one year sneaking off and burying them somewhere!

I am not a beach person, not fond of the sand, but your pictures tell otherwise. Your picture are so peaceful, fun, and free spirit that Its like I want to jump in my Honda Odyssey with the kids and go to the beach and just be like the wave, FREE!

To baby Nella with love from México:

"Dios le dijo a nuestros angelitos un día:- A tí te dare el don del amor-... habrá muchos otros como tú en toda la tierra. No habrá distición de razas porque tendrán la cara, los ojos y el cuerpo como si fueran hermanos de sangre, les enseñaras a amar sin recibir nada a cambio. TENDRAS SINDROME DE DOWN..."

The picture sharing site you use has been blocked at my office, so I am behind on your blog. My imagination is just NOT as creative as your beautiful posts require, and I have a hard time reading without being able to see the beauty that you use to illustrate your life. It sounds really weird to say, but I hope that you understand it's a compliment. Red X's just don't do your words any justice! Back to catching up!

My favorite phrase in this post? "..and climbing over stacks of colored kayaks." The wordsmith in me loves the way those words string together. You have a beautiful Sunday tradition -- I miss being closer to the beach and digging my toes in the sand. Love that last photo of Lainey!

Oh! I'm a little jealous....Rainy, cool Vancouver hasn't experienced any real warmth yet - but, it won't be long now!

I too love your IOC posts. The girl who grew up on a Canadian lighthouse, can smell the salt-chuck in every picture.

Love, love, love the picture of Nella - with her little bathing-suited bottom up in the air - and of course, like everyone else, I have to comment on the amazing shots of Lainey channeling Audrey Hepburn!

I met a most special person on my bus ride to work, today - and I want to share the story.

I caught a slightly later bus than normal - just running late, so I was a bit distracted. Got on, showed my fare, and found a seat - (score! to find a seat!) The passenger next to me, turned - and blessed me with a smile so radiant and warm, it was like the sun shone right inside the bus! "Who can be this happy at 8:00 a.m.?!", I thought - but, of course her smile was so infectious that I couldn't resist smiling back, and offering a "Good Morning!" ... whereupon she responded, "Awwww" - and blessed me with a hug....followed almost immediately by an outstretched hand - and - "I'm Sarah - what's your name?" I told her my name - and that I loved her name - because it's my daughter's middle name! We smiled and chatted through 3 or 4 stops - and then, she stood up - making the announcement - "It's good to meet new people! - Now you know my name!" She made her way to the door, and as she hopped off the bus, there was one last wave, and a "Bye, Rosemary!"

Sarah was a lady, probably in her mid-40s, if I had to guess - who has that magical extra chromosome you have helped us learn so much about.

I loved her confidence and smile - and thought to myself, "I don't know who instilled so much confidence into Sarah - but, how wonderful that they did!" Someone else - obviously alot of years ago - knew what to do to raise a successful and confident member of society.....in the same loving way that you and everyone who loves their children are doing every day...

I hope I am afforded the opportunity to share a bus ride with Sarah again. What a blessed start she was to my day!

Thanks for all that you share with us every day! ,.... Rosemary
