Under the Moon, Under the Weather

The sky is a deep navy tonight and hosting the grandest exhibition of moon--rooted low, glowing radiantly. A thin veil of cloud is stretched across its width like lace, and every time I glance out the window, it seems to have grown--larger, lower, brighter.

We are nursing colds this weekend, all competing for the huskiest voice award. But colds and weekends happen to be the perfect pair. And so, we burrow...and ride it out, weekend style.

I have to say your comments on the last post were insightful and beautiful. Thank you for being so open and honest.

The Empower Necklace
winner is Commenter #410, Appledapple: I would tell my 13 year old self to strut. To embrace the strength I felt, I knew was within me...but it frightened me, I would tell myself not to fear it, ever.

Appledapple, please send your mailing information to kellehamptonblog@comcast.net, and a pretty little necklace will be making it to your mailbox soon.

Happy Weekending!

Oh the resilience of the human spirit. The waves that might topple us, we ride with confidence. The winds that might knock us over, we harness and send a kite high in the air. I look at our little gift and remember when hot tears burned in the chaos of worry and dread...and now, I would trade her for no one. She needs no "repairing" or "restoring." She is so completely Nellalicious. She is part of our perfect life...perfect in love and beauty. And her big sister just loves her so...they are going to be quite the team...I am sure they will get in trouble together, and do sweet things together, and just BE together. Well, feel better, water that garden, drink lots of fluids, sleep as much as you can and you will start the new week happy and well!!!

We're sick over here, too! Calvin noticed tonight that all 5 of us were in sweats. :)

Honestly, I feel like with every post I read of yours, I'm writing things akin to "Me, too! Me, too!" For reasons that elude me, we seem to be on a bit of a parallel course.

I've even got shin splints... :)

Well wishes to your rowdy gang.

Hey Kelle, it's been a while since i posted a comment. I had to go back and read your last post i missed it. I enjoyed it. I have posted before about my daughter before, she has spina bifida. She is doing so good starting to walk by herself with forearm crutches, yaeh!!! I haven't blogged too much lately but put a recent pic of her on my blog. My heart got broken the other day, because i post pics of her on a group forum of other parents with kids with spina bifida and apparently i left a pic public and some random person typed "ha ha retard" under her picture, tears :(. I didn't really cry, but it really upset me that a grown adult would do something that horrible. It did stab like a knife twisting in my chest. That word "retard" makes me cringe, it is just not pleasant knowing that people are being mean. Samantha is only just 2 and i have already experienced the hatred in this world, the one thing that has been in the back of my mind since i found out she had sb when i was pregnant. It is something all parents with special needs kids will experience at some point in their lives probably several times, unfortunately.
ok, enough of the negative. Are u posting any craft/creative ideas about Halloween? I have found a couple websites with cool ideas, i just didn't know if u had something up your sleeve, ha ha ha!!!!

Dear Kelle
When my grandson was diagnosed at 18 mo. with cerebral palsy that bus hit. hard. directly into my heart and shattered it beyond repair. I thought forever. Until your Nella. Through your voice and your lens her beautiful blue almond eyes have touched my soul and began the healing.

Dear Rik
We have so much in common
1) We're still rockin at 60, 1950 was a good year!
2) We're in MI, I'm in SW MI
3) We're on a new journey with our grandlittles
4) We're blessed with strong, determined daughters and sons who will guide our babies with their love.

I don't have the words to thank you both enough.

To JENNIFER, oh, that breaks MY heart, too, that people can be so mean and cruel. I know it is a fact of life I guess; we have all experienced it, but it doesnt make it hurt less when one experiences it. I guess we take some comfort in knowing that there is also so much love in the world and so many loving people. To KELLE and Family: Hope you all feel MUCH better real soon. Everyone around me seems to be sick, including a 2 yr-old. Poor things; at that age, one can't give them meds for congestion and cough and he sure wont let us use that awful scution bulb thing in his nose! So sad. I LOVE the quote at the end, Kelle - I think you have quoted her before? CONGRATS, too, to the winner of the neclace. I am ordering one for myself -a gift to ME!! Love you Kelle !

I think I saw that moon too, I always look out for it and it has been beautiful the last few nights. Now, I am in the UK but I think with us being in the Northern hemisphere it would be the same moon. I just made a fool of myself the other day with my ignorance of astronomy/gravity/stuff so maybe I'm wrong, BUT, I love the idea that you, who inspires me, looked at the same moon that also inspires me.

Those girls do that thing that little girls do - every day, past and present, seems like they look the cutest of any day ever. Impossible to be true of every day, but they do it, my nieces do the same!

Hope you feel better soon. I have been looking for a quote from Eunice Kennedy Shriver that your buddy walk post reminded me of, when I find it I'll put it there.

Jennifer, my heart holds your little close and celebrates those first steps. How amazing! Our special littles will accomplish more, will possess purer spirits, will touch and stretch the very heart of this world. I too fear those in the world who wield wounding words, but they are the truly broken ones. It is hard to fathom a heart so hard, so dark, do emptied of love they cannot see the divine glow of those who came to us to teach us what perfection and wholeness really is. These name callers and insensitive ones are the ones who truly walk through the world incomplete and disabled. I am clapping for Samantha--your cherished little champion! Love to you! I am glad you are part of our band!

Dear Kelle,
We are very familiar with burrowing and the ickies... my hubby has been very ill this week an unexpected infection added an ER visit, 2 dr. appointments and finally, a three-day hospital stay. We are home again now and I'm thanking my lucky stars for the predictability of home and the chance to mother my turkeys. Hubby is beginning to feel better... but now my baby is running a temperature... Oh well, such is life!

We've decided to adopt a child with Down Syndrome through Reece's Rainbow, thanks in large part to your posts about Nella.

A long time ago, God laid upon my heart the promise that I would have a child with DS. I've always taken that as something that will happen "some day" but more and more my family is realizing that the call to action is now.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that you have been an inspiration.

I had to go back and look like 4 times at the pic of Lainey with her puppy. I couldn't tell if it was a real dog or just a stuffed one!!

And I haven't commented on Nella's glasses yet but OMG love. I obviously don't want Colbie to have eyesight issues but if she does, she might have to try a pair like those pretty little specs.
