back to normalcy

no more shlepping. no more craziness. we're back to normalcy--me and you, girl. i love to watch you in this new toddler phase...the wonder, the learning, the becoming-who-you-are.

we played with crayons today...mommy wants you to be an artist because being creative and artistic has brought me so much joy and always makes me happy...i want you to have that too. but, i think you're a little young yet...cuz you ate the crayons.

so we switched to puzzles...and i was amazed watching the little "cogs" in your brain turn...you figured out which shapes fit and which shapes didn't. but then you ate the shapes too. that's okay. you are an explorer...and you can figure this stuff out however you want to.

p.s. no pressure on the walking...i like my crawling cubby. and daddy says he'll be sad when you quit doing that thing where you think you're cool and do the speedy crawl.

p.p.s. did i tell you i love you today? i think i did...but just once more...i love you.

love, mommy

oh, i forgot to tell you...your eyes are going greeny on me. i thought a blue-eyed baby would be divine, but never thought i'd get one. green-eyed? now, that was just too good to be true, so i didn't even let myself get that dreamy. whadya know...i got me a green-eyed baby. you's beautiful, cubby...but that's not why i love you.

Little Souls

While in Michigan, we met up with old friends and spent a couple hours sipping hot cocoa in an old downtown Starbucks and taking pics of these sweet little souls...

P.S.

Did your eyes wander up to the new collage? Check out bottom right pic. Big sigh. I get a lump in my throat and welling tears every time I look at that. Could it be? Is she mine? Yup. That there dimpled piece of heaven...has my last name. my eyes. my heart and soul. (okay, Brett's too). Go ahead...look at her. I get to wake up to that face every morning. How I got chosen to be her mama, I'll never know...but I'm lovin' it. Just had to add that. All done.

Music is a Language...

It's not often a new song that comes out just rocks me to the core...I find myself hating pop culture music more and more and searching for the unknowns...but this new song...Rocks. My. World. Coldplay's back, baby...loud and strong. Vivalavida!!! Seriously, I hear this song and I wanna go grand-theft-auto a tiny red convertible, find a stretch of palm-tree-ed speckled highway, crank up the volume...and drive. Hair in the wind. I feel like I'm in highschool again...and that's sayin' a lot for a sheltered homeschooled girl. But I won't go stealin' any cars...promise. (Emma...I picture you in the orchestra in the intro...your long brown curls whipping back and forth as your bow dances across your violin). Note to Self....play violin in next life.

Gotta go...music calls...(leaving room shakin' it' in my jammies...can you blow lap top speakers?)
"Dance with me, Lainey! Dance with yo' mama!"

More Wedding

A Few More...

Looking back at these pictures makes me realize one thing... I. Love. My. Family. Every one of them... and other than not being big, fat or Greek, it's so like My Big Fat Greek Wedding because there's just a mess of cousins and kids and neices and nephews and brothers and sisters and dancing and babies being held by all sorts of aunts and uncles (not to mention lots of babies on the dance floor...I think every baby there got danced to sleep that night)...and love galore. My brother called me today and said, "I don't know if it was the wedding or what, but I wanna get a VW van, and go around spreading love." Okay, so he's not really gunna do that, but I so know where he's coming from...not to dismiss the reality of us all having to have jobs and make money and do all of those mundane things that just have to be done--there's a beauty in that too...but, the bottom line is, it's things like weddings that remind us that life truly is about love and family and...well, enjoying the small things.

And the snapshots:

My sister, who is truly a secret SPY photographer despite the lack of a trench coat and sunglasses. Even church-lady with all her wedding photography rules couldn't spot my sister crouching behind the alter at the front of the church. Here's spy-lady zooming in from her secret tree hiding spot.

Mucho Mucho fun at the reception photo booth! The kids were in line all night!

These three cuzzies all got married in 2006 and all had baby girls in 2007. The cuzzies--myself, Emma and Amanda...the wombmates--Lainey, Rennie and Ava.

Is it a Solar Eclipse?

No. It's just Cubby's morning bed head. I'm not kidding. This is what it looks like every morning...except I trimmed her hair yesterday, and it's SO cute now.

This One's for Emma

Photobucket

My dear cousin, Emma...who proves that women can have it all. She's going to law school full time and also full time mommy to this precious baby, Lainey's "wombmate". I will always enjoy our memories of being pregnant together!

...and as for Cubby

All I can say is we are so happy to be home...despite having such a splendid time. She was so out of sorts, and although I know it's so good for babies to go with the flow, I felt guilty for her being so out of her element, shlepped around and overstimulated. Our home reunion tonight was precious...smiled so big when she saw Brett, and then all night long just loved on him. And when it was time to go to bed, I went to take her, and she locked her arms around his neck and cried. We both got teary and decided to lay in bed together with her.

Wedded Bliss, Family Bliss...and Home Bliss

Back from Michigan and seriously basking in love and family and wonderful memories. We did so much in such a short period of time...big family birthday bash for Lainey, sleepover at the Hyatt with oodles of cousins, catching up with old friends, and of course a fabulous wedding, dancing, late-night cousin talks...the list goes on. I have over a thousand pictures and there are SO many delicious ones. I'm SO tired...so they will come in installments.

Tonight...my thoughts are on my family and how precious they are to me and how blessed I am to grow up in this great, big wonderful bunch where cousins spent weekends together driving big wheels in Grandma and Grandpa's driveway and our memories have no limits. For the first time in a long time, this weekend, all of us got together--all 13 grandchildren and bazillion great-grandchildren...for Molly & Jon's wedding.

This is our Molly--my cousin--the sweetest, kindest, every-bone-in-her-body-is-good girl. She is beautiful, she is loving, she is BRILLIANT but never flaunts it. She's just...well, Molly. She deserves the best and found it in Jon. More pictures to come of our incredibly fun weekend.

This is the first wedding we've photographed...my sister and I...and had SO much fun doing it! Stories to come of our adventures.

From Michigan

We're in Michigan until Monday...but had to send a little love. Here we are at Papa's house. We'll have A LOT of pics when we come home...we're taking pics tomorrow and then my sister and I are photographing my cousin's wedding on Sunday...Lainey's first wedding! Hmmm...wonder what she's gunna wear...like I didn't already have it planned out forever ago!

On a different note...after getting caught up in Lainey's birthday, I had forgotten until yesterday morning when I woke up before dawn from a very vivid dream. A dream that we were back in the hospital...cuz that's where we were this time last year, and I never ever want to forget how thankful we are that everything turned out okay.

Jaundice

This is how Lainey spent her first 12 days of life and we basically were carried emotionally by our friends and family. I'll never forget how scared we were. They didn't have answers. We prayed. We waited. I think every year in the weeks after her birthday, I will be extra thankful...to God because I must have prayed a million "If you fix her I will (fill-in-the-blank)" as one possibly can...to our friends and family who became more dear to us during that time than they could ever know...and to her. Just looking at her, holding her today thinking of how I felt holding her a year ago...how far we've come.

Photobucket

So...with all that said, I'm SO enjoying the small things today.
